I TOOK A SOLO TRIP TO GHANA

If younger Debbie could see me now, she'd be staring in awe.

No, we did not become the first female president of Nigeria (yet) and no we did become a neurosurgeon we thought we'd be (Thank you Gifted Hands for the trauma LOL).

However, we found ourself and we know what makes us happy.

When I was much younger, I spent a reasonable amount of time by myself or buried in a book when I wasn't in school or church. Circumstances at the time didn't give me much of a choice. This made it challenging for me when I grew older to socialize, explore or know if I enjoyed time with myself because I wanted to or because I had no choice.

As I got older, I made a couple of friends and developed new interests but I realised that as much as I loved my chosen company, I genuinely enjoyed having time with myself.

That was why when I made the decision to take my first solo trip, it was a no brainer. A solo birthday trip no less.

I knew I wanted to get this done before I turned 30. There wasn't an invisible timeline or anything, I just wanted to do it for myself.

Ghana was lovely. I spent my birthday sitting in Nationalism Park by myself. I was literally the only visitor in the park; well my tour guide was there but she gave me space to do my thing.  I could reflect, think, pray, explore and just map out the next phase of my life. Of course I ended up having dinner in Makosa restaurant at the Sandbox Beach club because I'm going to have a fancy birthday regardless 😜

I spent my few days in Ghana doing touristy things and just experiencing life in a new city. I was happy just being and doing the things that made me happy.

Little Debbie sat inside and read because she didn't have much of a choice. Big Debbie has a choice but still chooses herself when she has to and she can afford it 💵😁

I hope I'm making her proud and she likes these pictures.
